10 Causes That Remove Punishment For A Sin
Imam Ibn Taymiyyah

Shaykh ul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

The punishment for a sin committed by a believer is removed in ten ways:

1 ) He repents to Allah (tawbah), so Allah accepts his repentance, for the one who repents from sin is like the one who has no sin.

2 ) He seeks forgiveness from Allah (istighfar), so Allah forgives him.

3 ) He does good deeds that erase his sin for good deeds erase bad ones.

4 ) His believing brethren pray for him or seek forgiveness for his sins during his life or death.

5 ) Or they [ask Allah] to bestow on him as gift from the reward for their deeds, with which Allah benefits him.

6 ) His Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, intercedes for him.

7 ) Allah tests him with trials in this world which expiate his sin.

8 ) Allah tests him in al-Barzakh (the intermediate life in the grave, between the death and the Day of Judgment) which expiates his sin.

9 ) Allah tests him in the various stages of the Day of Judgment which expiates his sins.

10 ) Or the Most Merciful of those who have mercy has mercy on him.

Whoever, then, is missed by these ten cannot blame anyone but himself.

We should note that if a person
calls upon Allaah and He does not respond, then either Allaah is
storing that up for him [for the Hereafter], or He is warding off from
him some evil that is greater than what was asked for. But he should
not despair and give up calling upon Allaah, for Allaah loves those who
persist in du’aa’ and who await His response with certain faith. For
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And when My
slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am
indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of
the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or
intercessor)” [al-Baqarah 2:186]

- Shaykh Munajjid

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Our
Lord descends to the lowest heaven when there is one third of the night
left, and He says, ‘Who will call upon Me, that I may answer? Who will
ask of Me, that I may give to him? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I
may forgive him?’ – until the dawn comes.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari,
7494; Muslim, 758)

“The last hour of Friday – there is no Muslim slave who stands and
prays and calls upon Allaah at that time, but Allaah will grant that to
him.” (narrated by al-Bukhaari, 935; Muslim, 852)

Or from the time when the imaam comes out on Friday until the prayer ends.

the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Du’aa’ made between the adhaan and iqaamah will not be refused.”
(narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 212; Abu Dawood, 521; Ahmad, 3/119.
al-Tirmidhi said, (it is) a saheeh hasan hadeeth).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “With
regard to sujood, offer lots of du’aa’ then, for it is more likely that
you will receive a response.” (Narrated by Muslim, 479). Another
occasion is after saying the final tashahhud (in prayer) and before
saying the salaam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) said, “Then let him say whatever du’aa’ he wants.” (Narrated by
al-Bukhaari and Muslim).

Paradise

by najat in najat-billah-elal-firdaws

Paradise is very high, and ascending to lofty places takes a great deal of effort. The way to Paradise is filled with things that go against human wishes and inclinations. This needs strong determination and willpower. In a hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim from Abu Hurayrah, the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, said: “Hell has been veiled with desires, and Paradise has been veiled with hardships.”

The version recorded by Muslim says “surrounded” instead of “veiled.” [Jami al-Usul, 10/521, no. 8069]

An-Nisa’i, Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud report from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam said:

“When Allah created Paradise, He told Jibril, ‘Go and look at it.’ So he went and looked at it, then he came back and said: ‘By Your Glory, no one will hear of it but he will enter it.” So He surrounded it with hardships and siad, ‘Go and look at it.’ So he went and looked at it, then came back and said: ‘By Your Glory, I fear that noone will enter it.” [Jami al-usul, 10/520, no. 8068. Tirmidhi said: It is a gharib sahih hasan hadith]

An-Nawawi commented on the first hadith:
“This is an example of the beautiful, eloquent and concise speech of which the Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, was capable, in which he gives a beautiful analogy. It means that nothing will help you to reach Paradise except going through hardships, and nothing will lead you to Hell but whims and desires. Both are veiled as described, and whoever tears down the veil will reach what was hidden behind it. The veil of Paradise is torn down by going through hardships, and the veil of Hell is torn down by giving in to whims and desires. Hardship includes striving consistently and patiently in worship, restraining one’s anger, forgiving, being patient, giving in charity, being kind to those who mistreat you, resisting physical desires, etc.” [Sharh an-Nawawi `ala Muslim, 17/165]

“But those who have faith and work righteousness, they are companions of the Garden, abiding in it eternally.” [2:82]

“There, no sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shay they [ever] be evicted.” [15:48]

“They will not taste death therein, except the first death, and He will preserve them from the penalty of the Blazing Fire. [It will be] a bounty from your Lord. That will be the supreme achievement!” [44:56-57]

“As for those who believe and work righteous deeds, they will have the gardens of Paradise as hospitality. Eternally therein, they will not desire any other [place].” [18:107-108]

“Their Lord gives them glad tidings of a mercy from Himself and good pleasure and of gardens for them wherein is lasting enjoyment.” [9:21]

Abu Hurayrah reported that Allah’s Apostle (peace be upon him) said:

“He who gets into Paradise [will be made to enjoy such an everlasting] bliss that he will neither become destitute nor will his clothes wear out nor will his youthfulness decline.” [Muslim]

Abu Sa`eed al-Khudree and Abu Hurayrah both narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

“There will be an announcer [in Paradise] who will make this announcement, ‘Verily, there is in store for you [everlasting] health. You will never fall ill, and you will live [forever] and never die. You will remain young and never grow old. You will always live in affluent circumstances and never become destitute.’ [This is explained in] the words of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, ‘And it will be announced to them, ‘This is the Paradise you have been made to inherit for what you used to do.’’[7:43]” [Muslim]

Abu Sa`eed reported that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:

“Death will be brought on the Day of Resurrection in the form of a white-colored ram.” [Abu Kuraib made the addition, "Then it will be made to stand between Paradise and Hell." So far as the rest of the hadeeth is concerned, there is perfect agreement between narrators.] “It will be said to the people of Paradise, ‘Do you recognize this?’ They will raise up their necks, look towards it and say, ‘Yes, it is death.’ Then a command will be given to slaughter it, and it will be said, ‘O people of Paradise, there is everlasting life for you and no death.’ Then [addressing] the people of Hellfire, it will be said, ‘O people of Hellfire, there is everlasting life for you and no death.’” Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) then recited the following verse pointing wit his hand to this [material] world: “Warn them of the day of regret, when their affairs will be decided. They are unmindful, and they do not believe.” [19:39] [Muslim]

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“It will be said to the people of Paradise, ‘O people of Paradise, eternity [for you] and no death!’ To the people of the Fire [it will be said], ‘O people of the Fire, eternity [for you] and no death!’” [Al-Bukhaari]

The Mouse and the Trap

by najat in najat-billah-elal-firdaws

The Mouse and the Trap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

“What food might this contain?” The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

The mouse turned to the lamb and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The lamb sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.”

The mouse turned to the cow and said “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.”

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house — like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer’s wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient.

But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the lamb.

The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn’t concern you, remember — when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

Each one of us is a vital thread in another person’s tapestry. Our lives are woven together for a reason.

Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,
“He who removes from a believer one of his difficulties of this world, Allah will remove one of his troubles on the Day of Judgement; and he who finds relief for a hard-pressed person, Allah will make things easy for him on the Day of Judgement; he who covers up (the faults) of a Muslim, Allah will cover up (his faults) in this world and in the Hereafter. Allah supports His slave as long as the slave is supportive of his brother; and he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah makes that path easy, leading to Paradise for him; The people who assemble in a house from the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah, learning it and teaching, there descends upon them the tranquillity, and mercy covers them, the angels flock around them, and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him; and he who lags behind in doing good deeds, his high descent will not make him go ahead.” [Muslim]

Happy Mothers Day!

by najat in najat-billah-elal-firdaws

Can we celebrate “Mother’s Day”?

Shaykh Muhamamd ibn Saalih ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about celebrating Mother’s Day and he replied: All celebrations which differ from the Eids prescribed in Islam are innovated festivals which were not known at the time of the righteous salaf, and may also have come from the non-Muslims, in which case as well as being an innovation (bid’ah) they are also an imitation of the enemies of Allaah.

The festivals which are prescribed in Islam are well known to the Muslims: they are Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and the weekly “Eid” of Jumu’ah. There is no other festival in Islam apart from these three.

All the festivals that have been invented apart from these are to be rejected because they are innovations and are false according to the laws of Allaah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever introduces anything into this matter of ours that is not part of it will have it rejected,” i.e., it will be thrown back at him and will not be accepted by Allaah. According to another version: “Whoever does any deed that is not part of this matter of ours will have it rejected.”

Once this is clear, then it is not permissible to show any of the signs of festivity on the celebration mentioned in the question, namely Mother’s Day. It is not permissible to show joy and happiness, or to offer gifts, and so on.

The Muslim should feel proud of his religion and adhere to the limits set by Allaah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in this religion, which Allaah has chosen for His slaves, and he should not add anything or take anything away. What the Muslim should also do is to not to follow every new idea that comes along, rather his character should be in accordance with the sharee’ah of Allaah so that he will be a leader and example, not a follower, because the sharee’ah of Allaah – praise be to Allaah – is complete in all ways as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion”

[al-Maa'idah 5:3]

A mother’s right is greater than having just one day in the year to be honoured, rather the mother’s right over her children is that they should take care of her and obey her, so long as it does not involve disobedience towards Allaah, at all times and in all places.
